I have grown to love shooting senior sessions in Ann Arbor because of its variety. It gives urban, casual, cozy, scenic, and prestigious vibes. Maddi’s summer senior session took place at Island Park and Argo Park in Ann Arbor. She wanted to go somewhere that had water, so we made it happen for her. I’m glad we went because it allowed me to experiment with a new location/style (water) and we had a good time.
It’s My Session and I Can Play if I Want To
You can’t have an LJP senior session without having some fun. Our first location was Island Park. It had a playground and a large grassy area so we indulged and got some playful shots. Senior photos don’t always have to be structured… you’re allowed to break the mold. Playing in the grass and on the playground isn’t just for little kids. Teenagers can have fun too, and we had a lot of it! These types of shots allowed us to capture Maddi’s innocence, which every parent loves to see.
If I Ain’t Got You, Babe,
I always encourage my clients to bring someone along with them besides their parents. It could be a best friend, boyfriend, sibling, etc. This allows the client to feel more comfortable. Having company always makes seemingly awkward situations so much more relaxed. Also, it’s good to have memories with those who have been there for you on your journey. Maddi decided to bring her boyfriend and he was so much fun. Even though he didn’t “plan” on taking photos that day, he did jump in for a few. Now they will have those memories to look back on. I truly believe his presence enhanced Maddi’s shoot. Sometimes others can bring out things in the client that a photographer can’t, and it’s a beautiful thing to capture.
Water Anyone?
I always wanted to try having water as the backdrop. I was fortunate enough that Maddi wanted the same thing. Our two locations had the backdrop of the Huron River. We got shots by the water at Argo Park and at Island Park we did shots in the water. When two great minds come together, great images happen! We had fun in the sun, and a little water never hurt anybody.
