Fall shoots are always fun to do because of the beautiful colors, the fun outfit choices, and the favorable weather. It’s my favorite season for senior photoshoots because the season offers so much variety. I was privileged to capture Kaiden’s fall senior session in Downtown Detroit.
The Z Garage
The Z Garage is a parking structure that has ten levels of art by artists from around the world. If urban is the look you’re looking for in a senior shoot, then this is an option to consider. Each level provides beautiful artwork/graffiti that will give the illusion that you went to many different locations to get different looks, when in fact, you just went to ONE location. Not only is the artwork/graffiti beautiful, the rooftop also offers a whole other realm to explore. This is where we spent most of our time shooting. The skyscrapers, landmark buildings, the beautiful skyline, and the view of downtown gave us so much to work with it. It offered so many natural props such as iron fences, parking blocks, concrete blocks, ledges overlooking downtown, etc. Kaiden nailed every single shot. We took multiple photos and it was hard to narrow down the best ones to edit. That’s a great problem to have. We had fun for this first part of our session and it definitely gave the urban vice we were going for.
It’s a Family Affair
I always want to include a family member or someone close to the client as a way to cherish those memories of the occasion. Not only does it help to relax the client, but it’s also good to have images of the support system the client had during their senior year. In this case, it was Kaiden’s mom Nina, who jumped in for a number of photos. I’ve known “of” Kaiden because I previously worked with her mom for many years, but to have her there to guide her was amazing. Mom knew which facial expressions were really “her”, she made her laugh and think of memories to evoke a certain expression, and she was there to fix her hair in ways that better suited the look we were going for. All of this helped to make beautiful images. That’s the power of having someone close to the client with them for their session.
The Belt
Right next to the Z Garage is The Belt. It’s a nice cozy alleyway with tons of personality and beautiful artwork/graffiti. The sun had already set and it was pretty dark, but we were lucky enough to pull off a couple of shots since Kaiden had her heart set on this location. Her outfit matched perfectly with the scenery and she nailed every pose for every shot. This was the perfect finale to an epic session.
